Goethe Institut Nigeria to Hold Spoken Word and Poetry Workshop‏

A poetry and spoken word workshop has been organized by the Goethe Institut, and will be taking place at City Hall, Lagos. The workshop is similar to the one held in Port Harcourt in April 2014 during the Port Harcourt World Book Capital event with poets and spoken word artists Dagga Tolar, Dare Dan Kolawole and Uche Uwadinachi in attendance.  The workshop will take 20 selected participants through the art and techniques of poetry composition and highlight the differences between a written poem and a spoken word poem, which is aimed at a listening audience. The workshop will also cover the art of spoken word. At the end of the workshop, it is believed that the participants will understand the basic requirements of writing and presenting poetry, perform spoken word and poetry, and develop a greater general interest in the art of poetry. Participants will be taught how to use poetry and spoken word as tools for social change, intellectual documentation of social issues and a form of entertainment. Interested participants can apply by sending an email to info@lagos.goethe.org and take a step further to being known like Wana Wana, Bassey Ikpi and Sage Hassan. Deadline for submissions is June 20, 2014 Workshop dates:  01/07/2014 – 03/07/2014, 10a.m- 3p.m daily
