In an official statement on Friday, January 29, 2021, Globacom revealed that it has received a license from the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enrol every eligible Nigerian for the NIN. The company owned by billionaire Nigerian businessman, Mike Adenuga, disclosed its support for efforts by the Nigerian government aimed at creating a safe and sustainable industry and reassured Nigerians of their resolve to ensure an uninterrupted network experience with Globacom.
‘We have deployed devices aligned with NIMC standards across several Gloworld outlets and are making immediate arrangements for our other centres across the country to commence. Our objective is to create more opportunities for Nigerians who are yet to enrol for their NIN to do so more conveniently.’ Globacom
For Globacom subscribers who have their NIN but have not linked it with their mobile numbers yet, they can do so by sending NIN to 109, or by dialling *109# to submit their National Identity Number. To update their NIN through voice call, customers can call 109.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian government has set February 9, 2021, as the deadline for linking NIN with mobile numbers or risk having phone lines blocked. The gesture from Glo is timely as it will help reduce the long queues at NIMC centres which have put the health of Nigerians at risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Source: Nairametrics
