Bedbugs are the annoying and tiny insects that sometimes sleep with us in our beds when we refuse to maintain a certain level of cleanliness in the bedroom. Bedbugs are tiny bugs that usually inhabit the mattresses and suck human blood during the night when they are asleep. They are commonly found in dirty bedroom environments and they take advantage of the conducive environment to reproduce and wreak havoc on the occupants of the room. Most of us at one time or the other have seen and felt the effects of bedbugs in our rooms, so the question is not what a bedbug is, but how to get rid of them. If you are one of those battling with the menace of bedbugs in your room, then here are useful tips you can follow to eliminate them:
- Clean the room: Bedbugs thrive in dirty environment and if you want to get rid of them, you have to firstly make the environment less conducive for them to live. The first thing to do is to thoroughly clean the room, dust and sweep all the nooks and crannies where they hide so as to expel them. Bedbugs can be quite difficult to handle, so one has to be very careful when dealing with them.
- Move the bed: Having your bed in one spot for a long period of time greatly contributes to the development of bedbugs in that area since the secluded part serves as a great hiding place for them. Rearrange the entire room and move your bed from where it is to another part of the room to create an open space where you can see and deal with the bugs.
- Sundry the mattress: Bedbugs hate the sun, that is why they hide in mattresses and only come out in the night for their blood meal. To get rid of them, you need to expose your mattress to the hot sun and leave it in there for a long period of time. You can choose a weekend to this so that you will be able to monitor the weather and change the position of the bed so that it can get as much sun as possible. Your pillows too are not excluded from this sun treatment.
- Use insecticides: As a last resort, you can employ the use of chemicals to get rid of bedbugs in your room. However this requires sufficient precision and knowledge as chemicals are not to be handled carelessly. You need to know the specific type of insecticide to use and the required amount to be used in order to prevent poisoning. Also do not keep this product around the house after use, it is better to keep it in a secluded place such as the store or the garage where it would not be tampered with.
