The Federal University of Technology, Owerri, is preparing to manufacture the first made in Nigeria car by 2015. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Cyril Asiabaka, in an announcement, said the university plans to manufacture the cars in commercial quantity by 2017. He said it will be done in partnership with the University of Munich, Germany.
If successful, this will be a major achievement from the academe in recent years, given that most of the things that go into production in Nigeria are from the industry.
Asiabaka, on financials of the school, said, “The university has received the sum of N1billion out of the N30 billion released by the Federal Government for the development of public universities just as it received N3billion out of the N100 billion released by the Federal Government, part of which he said would be used to tackle sundry problems facing the university and payment of workers’ allowances.”
