Linear heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has taken the war of words to a whole new level with his latest shot at the unified world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua.
Fury, who is currently in the United States ahead of his clash with underrated German Tom Schwarz on June 15, sent a direct message to Joshua, asking him to be a man and get his head out of Eddie Hearn’s handbag.
Joshua is billed to make his stateside debut against Andy Ruiz Jnr on June 1, at the Maddison Square Garden in New York.
However, this is not the bout fans everywhere want to see.
The heavyweight world is eager to see a fight between the three dominant heads of the division and an undisputed title unification bout.
The World Boxing Council champion and the only other supreme overlord of the heavyweight division, Deontay Wilder, recently defended his title against Dominic Breazeale in a rip-roaring first round knockout. This move has set Wilder in the eyes of many boxing fans and indeed the entire world as we await his next fight.
The question on everyone’s mind is, ‘would Wilder agree to take on Joshua for the undisputed champion of the world title?’
Fury believes that the only way this can happen is if Joshua steps out of his promoter’s shadow and acts like the man that he is supposed to be.
“If the fighters are willing to fight, why should a network get in the way? Fighters use that as an excuse… AKA Anthony Joshua.
“He uses that a lot as an excuse, but I believe that (they can happen) if fighters really wanted to fight each other — as I proved (when he faced Wilder last December).” — Tyson Fury
