Foods To Avoid When Flying

Flying can be a very strenuous activity, jetting across the globe thousands of feet above the air. It is important to know which foods you should not eat before flying. It’s not such a big deal for a short travel across the country, but if you’re going on a long haul and flying at 35,000 feet, your body can react in all sorts of ways to foods you ate before the flight. Coffee Drinking too much coffee or consuming products with caffeine before or during a flight can have the dual effect of making you feel dehydrated and needing the bathroom more often. It can also mess up your sleep cycle. Apples Apples might seem like a healthy choice, but all the fiber in them makes them difficult to digest, and you know what that means—gas and bloating. In this case, an apple a day may not keep the doctor away. 🙂 Chewing gum Chewing gum may help you ease the pressure in your ears but it just allows you take in more air which can cause more discomfort, leading to that ‘jet bloat feeling’. Avoid fast food and snacks Fast food at the airport may be a quick and convenient option but they make for a long and uncomfortable flight. Fats and oil from fries can cause heartburn, not to mention the amount of salt especially in potato chips that can lead to fluid retention, making your feet swell. Garlic Eating garlic may cause bad breath which will only get worse while flying. Garlic also permeates your skin membrane, meaning that your body odor will basically be that of garlic, which is definitely not cool for anyone seated close to you. 😛
