Flying Eagles Book a Place in AYC Final

Nigeria’s U20 men’s football team, The Flying Eagles have booked their place in the final of the ongoing African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal. Yesterday, Manu Garba’s boys defeated their fierce rivals, Ghana’s Black Satellites 2-0 to boost their chances of winning a seventh AYC crown. Today, Nigeria will find out who they will face in the final when host, Senegal, tackles Mali in the other semi final. Nigeria got off to a flyer in the 22nd minute when Obinna Nwobodo rose above the defence to nod home a corner kick from Captain Musa Mohamed. The mercurial captain doubled their lead in the second half from the penalty spot after he was impeded in Ghana’s penalty area. That second goal gave the Eagles some breathing space as the Ghanaians were giving them a tough time. Nigeria held on to book their place in the final while Ghana had to settle for a place in the third/fourth playoff. However, all four teams in the semi-finals are to represent Africa at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand later in the year. Obinna Nwobodo was awarded the Orange Man of the Match.
