Nigerian national female U-17 football team started their World Cup qualifying campaign in a brilliant fashion after beating the Guinean women U-17 side 6-1 on Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Conakry. The win in the first-leg tie saw Osun Babes striker, Yemisi Samuel, in blistering form after bagging a hat-trick at the September 28 Stadium to ensure the Flamingoes earned a vital away win ahead of the return tie in Nigeria. Rofiat Imuran also made the score sheet with a brace, while Chinyere Kalu’s opener was her only goal for the encounter.

After missing out on the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay, the Flamingoes were eager to ensure they did not repeat the mistakes of their past on Saturday as Chinyere Kalu declared the goal scoring party open just three minutes into the match. Yemisi Samuel who already boosted eight goals in the warm up matches doubled the lead in the 25th minute with a 35-yards strike, while Imuran netted the third for the visitors seven minutes before the half-time whistle was blown.

A pass from Olushola Shobowale met Imuran well as she put in the fourth for the Bankole Olowookere’s girls in the 65th minute. With nine minutes left, Fatoumata Diallo, pulled one back for the hosts to reduce the goal deficit to three but the rampant visitors were not done with the encounter yet as Yemisi grabbed her second for the encounter and Nigeria’s fifth in the 85th minute before completing her hat-trick in the dying minutes of the encounter to make the headlines.
