FIFA Presidential Elections Hold Today

The World’s football governing body, FIFA, will hold its presidential election today in Zurich, Switzerland. The leaders of the 209-member associations, including Nigeria, are expected to partake in the elections. FIFA held their last Presidential elections last year, which saw Sepp Blatter being re-elected as the President but the Organisation has since been rocked by corruption scandals. This year’s election is a desperate attempt by the FIFA to reform and sanctify the Organisation. Asia Football Confederation (AFC) president, Salman, is favourite in the presidential polls that also has UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein from Jordan, ex-FIFA chief Jerome Champagne and South Africa’s Tokyo Sexwale. Nigeria will most likely go along with CAF to vote Salman Al Khalifa on Friday in Switzerland. However, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have declined to make any public comments on how the association will vote. CAF President and acting FIFA President, Issa Hayatou, will take charge of the elections. He ran for the same office against Sepp Blatter back in 2002.
