World football ruling body, FIFA, has enlisted Nigeria’s most successful football clubs, Enyimba FC of Aba, and Enugu Rangers as part of top 16 African football clubs to participate in a post-COVID-19 fundraising tournament. With the popularity in the continent as top criteria for selection of clubs, Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance of Tunisia, TP Mazembe of Congo, Kaiser Chiefs of South Africa, and Accra Hearts of Oak of Ghana also forms part of the list of clubs set to compete at the tournament which has been designed to have a home and away format.

Other clubs include Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca (both are Moroccan clubs), AS Vita of Congo, Zamalek of Egypt, Kampala City Club KCC of Uganda, Zesco United of Zambia, Orlando Pirates of South Africa, Gor Mahia of Kenya, and El Merreikh of Sudan. Disclosing that the tournament will equally be held in other continents, FIFA noted that the time frame for the tournament has not been set yet but it will hold when it is safe for fans to be allowed into stadiums to watch games.
“The tournament will be held in each continent at the same time. It will last for a month with the tournament starting with group ties played over two legs. The money realised will be managed by FIFA who will, in turn, reward each club or representatives during an award to the Champions at its inauguration of inter-club tournament in the Hall of Heroes in Zurich, Switzerland.”

The People’s Elephant (Enyimba) and Flying Antelopes (Enugu Rangers) have both confirmed awareness about the tournament though they have both not been officially communicated by FIFA.
