Afrobeat maestro, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, will thrill the crowd with his compelling arrangement of delightful afro-music at the opening ceremony of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The legendary singer, who is also a four time Grammy Award nominee (2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013), will share the big stage with two other international acts; Egypt’s Hakim and Ivory Coast’s Dobet Gnahore.
According to a post on the Confederation of African football’s official twitter handle, the Nigerian legend will perform the official song for the 2019 AFCON alongside Hakim and Dobet Gnahore.
Femi will sing in English, while Hakim and Dobet Gnahore perform in Arabic and French, respectively.
All three musicians will sing “Metgamaeen” (We Are Together), produced by Synergy.
This is not the first time the Nigerian afrobeat king will be called to make a presentation at the opening of a massive football event.
Femi performed at the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa at the Soccer City Stadium on June 11, 2010 in Johannesburg.
He has also serenaded guests at several other top events across the continent, including the Glo-CAF awards.
The much-awaited AFCON will kickoff on Friday, June 20, with a match between tournament host, Egypt, and Zimbabwe at the Cairo International Stadium.
The Super Eagles will begin their campaign at the competition a day after with a game against Burundi at the Alexandria Stadium, before they take on Guinea and Madagascar on June 26, and June 30, respectively.
