As the world woke up to news that Nigeria’s foremost writer, Chinua Achebe, had passed on, a certain young rapper, Splash, expressed deep shock due to the fact that Achebe died the same day she released her debut single “Church Agbasa” that has drawn a lot of inspiration and paid tribute to the literary icon.
The video which premiered on the 22nd of March on iROKING had a lot of witty punch lines in Igbo Language with Achebe’s line being one of the finest “…I no fit stay watch things fall apart… person never beat them, dem don dey nebe… Chinua Achebe.”
The video that has received great reviews has seen Splash emerging as a major rap star to watch out for in 2013. In an interview she had this to say; “I wish the man was alive, and then may be one day he would have listened to my song and appreciated our own generation, that we learned a bit from them. But what can I say, God alone knows why he called him on the day I did a song that was hugely influence by him. On my video, all I can say is I am so happy at the nice things people have been saying about the song, it just makes me know there is a lot of work to be done.”
