While visiting the house of Late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed in the company of the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday declared that the house located on Nepa Road Isolo Abeokuta would become a national museum.
He unveils his plans to immortalize the popular Ransome- Kuti family by turning their ancestral home into a family museum. He said the museum would be named Heritage Museum. This movement he believes is a step in putting the nation’s rhetoric into actions, believing that Nigeria’s most valuable asset is its cultural heritage.
For him the project is laudable and admirable as he asserts that the immortalization of the Ransome Kuti family would be immortalizing a group of people representing various aspects of the national growth and also representatives of diverse things to different individuals; education, emancipation, and entertainment. Their contributions to Nigerian art, religion, education, medicine and politics cannot be overemphasized.
Moreover, the nation is currently celebrating the 20
th anniversary of the death of the maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who is placed in a generation of world musicians born during the 1930s who fused jazz with a variety of local styles to achieve international recognition. The minister assured the nation that the museum would have been inaugurated before the following year anniversary.
Amosun in his speech, according to Punch Nigeria, assured the Minister of the delivering of the project, adding that the Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s family contributed to laying the foundation for what he termed “a greater Ogun State”. He also promised to construct museums for all illustrious sons and daughters of the state in other to preserve their heritage.
