It would seem coach Thomas Dennerby’s decision to keep the ace player, Asisat Oshoala, out of the Four-Nation Invitational in China, was not a very good one after all. The Super Falcons of Nigeria put up a poor show in their first game of the invitational against host team China. The visitors were dealt a 3-0 defeat at the Huitang Stadium Meizhou Wuhua, China.

The Steel Roses of China, were out to fault Nigeria’s strategy, as they took the lead nine minutes into the game, thanks to a brilliant shot by Zhang Rui.

Nigeria all but levelled the scores in the 22nd minute, however, Ngozi Okobi’s effort went wide.

Super Falcons Goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi was called into action again minutes before half-time, and she delivered impressively to keep the scores at 0-1 into half-time.

After the break, the Falcons made several efforts at an equalizer, all to no avail. In the 64th minute, China’s Li Ying took the game further away from the Nigerian team with another goal for the Roses.

Li Ying completed a brace in the 92nd minute, following a clever set up by Wu Chengdu.

Having lost the game, the Falcons will now play Romania, who also suffered a 3-0 to the Korea Republic, for a third place spot.

China, on the other hand, will face South Korea in the finals.
