The Super Falcons suffered a troubling 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening game of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. The Norwegians scored all three goals in the first half.
Nigeria now occupies third place on Group A standing, with zero points, after South Korea suffered a four goal loss to France in their opening encounter.
The Falcons will try to put their defeat to Norway behind them when they take on Korea on Wednesday, June 12, at the Stade del Alpes.
With Korea’s four goal deficit and the 24-team tournament format, Nigeria’s chance of qualifying from the group stage is wide, if the Falcons can defeat their Asian counterparts and hold tournament hosts, France, when they meet in Rennes on June 17.
If the Falcons successfully pull this off, they could advance from the group stage among the four best third-placed teams.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, who watched Nigeria’s match against Norway – alongside second Vice President, Shehu Dikko, General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi and Executive Committee member, Aisha Falode – has enjoined the Falcons to be ruthless in their match against Korea.
