The Super Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to Canada in Monday’s international friendly at the Pintaar  Arena Football Centre in Murcia, Spain.

The Falcons got on the front foot in the 26th minute after Desire Oparanozie maneuvered her way past a Canadian defender and found the back of the net.

The Canadians pressured Nigeria’s side of the field consistently, but they were unable to break through the Falcons’ thick defense line until the end of the first half.

Into the restart, it was clear something was definitely different with the Canadian team. Their new style of play was impressive and too precise to be overlooked.

It took the Canadians only three minutes to break though Nigeria’s strong back-wall and level the scoreline through Beckie Janine.

Five minutes later, Canada took the lead via a glorious header by Schmidt, which went way beyond the reach of Falcons goalie, Tochukwu Oluehi.

The Falcons were determined to prove their strengths to the Canadian ladies, and they did, pulling out every trick in their box in a bid to equalize and possibly usurp the lead.

In the 61st minute, Ngozi Ebere laid out a well calculated pass for Uchenna Kanu, but her effort was stopped by Canadian goaltender, McLedo.

Every other attempt by the Super Falcons could not make it through the Canadian defense until the final whistle.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to the world’s No. 5 team, Canada, who now remain unbeaten in six games.
