Falcons Beat Cameroon to Reclaim African Women’s Title

Nigeria’s female national football team, Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the final of African Women’s Championship in Windhoek, Namibia yesterday. Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie gave them the lead after just 12 minutes with a sublime free kick. Asisat Oshoala then put them in total control with a well taken goal two minutes before the half-time break. The Super Falcons have now won the African Women’s Championship a record seven times since the inaugural tournament in 1991, failing to win it on just two occasions, in 2008 and 2012 when Equatorial Guinea dominated women’s football in the continent. Nigeria and Cameroon will now represent Africa in next year’s World Cup in Canada; they will be joined by Ivory Coast who defeated South Africa in the third-place match.
