Nigeria’s U-20 women’s football team, the Super Falconets have advanced to the final round of qualifiers in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after they defeated Morocco 6-2 on aggregate.
The Falconets, who left the first leg of the matchup in a 1-1 stalemate, met with the Moroccans on Saturday for the second leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, pummeling them to a 5-1 victory.
The game was almost postponed, due to heavy downpour at the venue, but was later allowed to continue by the match commissioner.
The Super Falconets had a great start with a goal by Rasheedat Ajibade in the fifth minute assisted by Joy Duru.
Gift Monday put Nigeria two goals ahead with a brilliant counter in the 10 minute.
The Moroccans, however, held the Falconets through the remaining time of the first half, scoring a goal in the 35th minute from Fatima Tagnaout.
In the 77th minute, Reuben Charity dashed the hopes of the Moroccans with a goal to solidify Nigeria’s 2 goal lead.
At this point, the Falconets were totally on top of their game out playing the Moroccans at every turn as Ajibade and Reuben each scored a goal just before the end of the second half to end the game at 5-1.
The Super Falconets will face South Africa in the final round of the qualifiers and are hopeful to make it through to the World Cup finals in France in 2018.
Falconets have played in the World Cup final twice, losing to Germany on both occasions in 2010 and 2014.
