Facebook Now Supports Animated GIFs On Website

Popular social network Facebook announced on May 29 that it has upgraded its services to support animated GIFs on its website. GIFs – Graphic Interchange Formats – are graphic images on web pages that move, sometimes for the purpose of comedy. A user can share such content on their News Feeds by pasting its link into his “status update” box. He will not be permitted to directly upload from phones and other mobile device. This is great news for users who find these images entertaining enough to share with their loved ones, and for the professionals who create them. They can now share their creations with a larger audience on cyberspace. The file was first introduced in the 1980’s and has since grown to increasing popularity. Avid Myspace users of the 2000s would be very familiar with the GIFs, considering their popularity on the social networking platform at the time. “We built support for animated GIFs to help people express themselves in fun new ways on Facebook. Like many features that we release on Facebook, we want to ensure that this drives a great experience for people first before rolling it out more widely. While Pages cannot currently post GIFs, we are exploring ways to enable this in the future,” said Facebook’s official statement.
