About 100 young students between the ages of 6 and 14 turned out for the first edition of The Beach Soccer Project, a coaching clinic sponsored by Super Sand Eagles’ Abu Azeez which took centre stage at St. Micheal’s Primary School, Ojo, Lagos.
In this project, Abu Azeez has taken it upon himself to educate young Nigerians on the place and importance of Beach Soccer. Thirty kids were randomly selected and taught basic beach soccer skills by Nigeria’s all-time highest beach soccer goal scorer, Azeez.
Speaking to Connect Nigeria, the Enugu Rangers forward explained that the beach soccer project is one way he has chosen to give back to the community [Ojo local government] where he grew up.
He further revealed that the project is targeted at promoting the beach soccer culture, right from the grassroots levels to other areas of Lagos, and in time his vision will spread to the rest of the world one city at a time.
“We are trying to promote beach soccer more in this country and Africa at large, not everybody will play the regular football,” Azeez told Connect Nigeria.
The player continued, likening the game to a relaxing agent “that brings so much happiness to you and the people watching you.”
