Uchechukwu Obiajulu Sakar; Founder/Director of Sakar’s Foundation International. A foundation whose ultimate goal is to seek the empowerment of the ‘marginalized’ groups/physically challenged. Sakar has a Diploma in chemical Engineering and multiple certificates, including, basic and advanced certificates in Leadership, basic and advanced certificates in Jewish theology/Archaeology and additional ICT certificates.
Sakar: A Desire for Change
Sakar is a young Change-Maker whose consciousness for change was usurped by the environment in which he was raised; the south-eastern part of Nigeria. His Igbo descent has informed his motivation to be change agent in his generation; given that his tribal inclinations and cultural orientation, has given him the first-hand experience of what it means to be marginalized; especially in terms of Gender.
For over a decade and right from a much young age, Sakar has offered himself as a volunteer/ human rights activists in favour of the gender marginalized groups, the physically challenged and destitute; speaking for their cause at whatever forum available, seminars, workshops etc. He has sought for every vista to maximise every opportunity, no matter how little to not only advocate for-but also to equip himself in the course of engendering a peaceful, justice and gender-mainstreamed society for the marginalised groups, physically challenged and destitute.
Sakar’s Foundation International for the Empowerment of the Marginalized Groups, Physically Challenged and Destitute
Sakar’s submission is that marginalization is an abnormality in the society. More so, an unfortunate one, given that it has become a norm in some societies, especially because of the cultural undertones attached to it. For example, women or females, in the area of his origin are treated as second-class citizens, so much so that, educating the girl child is perceived as a waste of resources in some cycles. The same treatment is given to certain people that are diseased, handicapped or disabled. It is because of these that Sakar has decided to step out and make quantum leaps in the direction of empowering the marginalized groups, physically challenged and the destitute.
Sakar’s springboard has been his past working experiences; having had experiences as a salesmanship with the Unilever Nig. Plc and Nigeria Breweries plc, as well as adequate exposure as a freelance broadcaster with the African Independent Television (AIT), and other Radio broadcasting outfits.
In addition to the above experiences, he has had the opportunity to serve as a program Manager for the “Care for the Physically Challenged and Destitute Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria, for couple of years. These experiences have enabled him to spur his vision through his own NGO; The Sakar’s Foundation International for the Empowerment of the Marginalized Groups, Physically Challenged and Destitute. The NGO is a movement inspired by consciousness for change and transformation. Sakar’s belief is that, “Although Change is generated from consciousness; consciousness itself was generated from the external (as in environment)”.
Engaging in what looks like Humanitarian services, Sakar’s foundation and organization goes beyond humanitarian intentions; it works for the empowerment of the physically challenged, marginalized groups and destitute: entailing children living with Asperger syndrome, Cyst, Continuous Fits and Cyst, Autism, Tuberculosis and Prophilaxis. An enormous struggle indeed, but to the determined, Impossible is Nothing. Such a gigantic task is not for the types of Sakar alone; but for the entirety of humankind; the drive to create a levelled playing ground for the world.
To our everyday hero; more grease to your elbows and joints! Indeed, there is “Energy in Synergy”, ‘Together, we can surely achieve more’.
