Saif Terry who netted a hat trick against the Peoples Elephant was not done with them as he gifted the visitors the lead in the eight-minute of the encounter. However, the home side would only be left behind for six minutes as Victor Mbaoma handed them the equalizer ahead of a possible comeback. Four minutes into the second half, Mbaoma would grab a brace from the spot but it was not enough to see the eight-time Nigerian champions through.

Following their elimination from Africa’s biggest football clubs competition, Enyimba will now compete in the CAF Confederations Cup. Meanwhile, Rivers United is still awaiting CAF’s verdict over their postponed second-leg CAF Confederations Cup encounter against South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtics, a match which did not hold due to the inability of the Nigeria Football Federation to secure a waiver for the South Africans due to COVID-19 restrictions.
