The Super Eagles will face another international team in preparations for their world cup appearance in June. The English Football Association has confirmed the friendly against Nigeria in Wembley, and have stated the importance of the friendly in preparing the English team for the tournament. The Super Eagles will be one of two opponents for England, the other likely to be against Latin American opposition before they depart for Russia. The English Football Association made the decision to face an African side in a friendly duel to their World Cup opener against Tunisia in Volgograd on 18 June. The initial favorites for the friendly against England were Ghana and Senegal who the English team may meet in the round of 16 if either or both teams progress into the second round of the world cup final. But they chose to play Nigeria instead because of the popularity of the Super Eagles and their proven strengths in the international league. England will make the announcement official once their second June friendly has been confirmed. After playing the two friendlies, Gareth Southgate and his squad will fly to their camp in Russia. Then they will head to Volgograd to face Tunisia, Nizhny Novgorod for Panama and Kaliningrad to play Belgium on 28 June.
