#EndSARS: Athletes React To Lekki Massacre

  Following the killings of innocent Nigerian protesters at the Lekki toll gate, Lagos State, on the night of Tuesday, October 20, 2020, sportsmen and women all over the world have continued to lend their voices to the plight of the Nigerian peaceful protesters who had nothing but placards to demonstrate against police brutality in the most populous black nation on earth. Odion Ighalo

Manchester United striker, Odion Ighalo, in a video post on his Twitter handle called out the Nigerian government for shooting at unarmed protesters. He would go on to describe the government as ‘’killers,’’ urging the United Kingdom, the United Nations, and world leaders to intervene in the matter.

Mario Balotelli

Italian footballer, Mario Balotelli on his Instagram page called for “legality and humanity,’’ urging the world to help Nigerians.

Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, John Obi Mikel, noted that it was ‘’enough,’’ on Instagram.

Asisat Oshoala

The captain of the Super Falcons of Nigeria posted a picture of the Nigerian flag stained with blood and left emojis depicting heartbreak.

Aruna Quadri

In a graphic message posted on Instagram, Nigerian table tennis star, Aruna Quadri, called on the government to ‘’stop killing innocent youths.’’

Ahmed Musa

Captain of the Nigerian national team, Ahmed Musa, extended his condolences to families of victims. He noted how unfortunate it is that Nigerians have lost the right to protest peacefully and exercise their basic human rights.
‘My heart goes out to everyone that has lost a loved one in this unnecessary massacre that happened yesterday. It’s unfortunate that we have lost the right to peacefully protest or exercise our basic human right. The government needs to do better and put an end to the bloodshed. Enough is enough.’ Ahmed Musa
