Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Monday And Tuesday As Public Holidays

The celebration is the biggest Islamic festival in Nigeria.

As part of celebrations marking the Eid-el-Kabir, the federal government has declared Monday, July 11 and Tuesday, July 12, 2022, as public holidays. This information was made public through a public statement from the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore who disclosed that the declaration of both days as public holidays was made by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on behalf of the government.

The minister congratulated all Muslims and Nigerians living within and outside the country on the celebration.

“I call on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) and to also use the period to pray for peace, unity, prosperity and the stability of the country, considering the challenges of insecurity we face at the moment,”
part of the statement read.

Aregbesola also assured Nigerians that the president is

“committed to the security of lives and properties of all Nigerians, empowering the citizens for successful living, the provisions of social investments programmes and adequate security in the schools.”

Further, the minister urged Nigerians to remain alert during celebrations and not fail to report any suspicious individuals or criminal activities to authorities, especially during the festival. He also insisted that:
“We must all take responsibility for the security of lives and property as we celebrate this year’s festival.”

Aregbesola craved the indulgence of Nigerians to come together, put our heads, hearts and all we have together, in order to achieve relative peace for harmonious coexistence and put an end to insecurities in Nigeria,’’

the statement emphasized.
