Why You Should Eat a Breakfast Meal

Why You Should Eat a Breakfast Meal - www.connectnigeria.com
I once heard a phrase like this, “eat like a king for breakfast, have lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”. Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, yet we tend to just rush out in the morning and get on with the busy day ahead and skip it totally. It’s called Break-fast because it breaks the fast between dinner and the next meal for the morning. Studies have shown that eating a healthy food in the morning can give you a more nutritionally complete diet that is higher in nutrients, vitamins and minerals. That being said here are reasons why you should consider making breakfast the most important meal you have for the day: Weight control: Most people think that by skipping breakfast they won’t gain weight, but the truth is, mornings are when hunger is at its best. Not eating then will make you eat much more throughout the whole day. So having a meal in the morning actually makes you balance out the rest of your meal for the day. Going without food increases insulin production in your body, which causes your body to store more fat. Looking to shed that weight or maintain it? Then eating breakfast is the best way to achieve that. Helps to kick start your day: Skipping breakfast in the morning and making your body run empty after going without food for 12 hours or more is not healthy. Just like using your car all day without putting fuel in it would leave your tank empty and unable to move, same way food is fuel for the body and it gives you the energy boost to kick start your day. It keeps you active and productive all day long. Gives you a balanced diet: Breakfast gives you a more nutritionally complete diet. Your body’s rhythm throws off throughout the day when you skip eating in the morning and you end up overeating which in the long run may lead to health complications. When you have breakfast you’re able to control and portion out a balanced meal for the rest of the day. Reduces risk of diabetes: Having breakfast reduces the risk of diabetes especially in Women. Studies have shown that Women who had irregular breakfast consumption on an average of zero to six times per week were at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than women who ate a morning meal every day. Plus the symptoms of blurred vision, frequent urination, fatigue, are definitely things you want to prevent. Memory: Your memory can’t be at its best after an all night fast. Eating breakfast is likely to improve cognitive function related to memory concentration which enables you excel at the office or to get good grades. Prevents heart disease: Eating breakfast was associated with a lower incidence of heart disease between men at the ages of 45 and 82. Having a healthy diet, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight prevents the incidence of most cardiovascular disease. Studies have also shown that skipping breakfast was associated with hypertension, insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels.
