The past two weeks have taught us that we have to get more conscious as a people. Civic awareness has always come off as a chore because somewhere in our heads, we seem to have given up on the country’s future but the #EndSARS protests of the last fortnight. We must be intentional with every aspect of our civic duty and the role of tech in that cannot be overemphasized. Not after seeing how much ground we can cover thanks to tech. So, this segment will be dedicated to tech that helps that process.

Zikoko.com’s GetYourPVC.com is one of the platforms making a big difference in that light. I discovered the application during the protests and the platform is as relevant and authentic as they come. As an extension to the website, the web app allows potential voters to get acquainted with the process of getting their permanent voters’ card. It links directly to the INEC website which at the moment is not open as voter registration does not commence until 2022 (that has to change too but baby steps).

I am familiar with the deliberate bottlenecks that hamper voting especially among young and upwardly mobile. There is a lot that has to be done to make it more conducive to vote and I honestly think tech could make it easier. Do well to get more informed on the process moving forward. Connect Nigeria will put as much information. Information is the first step to change, anywhere. To change anything, you must understand it first. Featured Image Source: Zikoko
