Today, we’ll be learning how to make almond milk at home. I am smiling as I write this because I’m aware that quite a good number of people are asking what’s the point since they can buy this nut milk at the store. Well, the point is that you can’t compare homemade almond milk with the one bought in stores; them no bi mate. The former is healthier, sweeter, creamier and fresher. Unlike the ones in the stores, homemade ones are also free from the added flavours, preservatives and thickeners. Before I tell you how to make this milk, here are a few things to note. The first is that the almonds need to be soaked in water for a period of time. For best results, it is best to soak them overnight or for a day or two. Now, here is the thing: the longer you soak the almonds, the creamier the milk will be. The second thing to note is that homemade almond milk can be sweetened with dates, honey or sugar and it can be flavoured with a splash of vanilla. The choice is yours. Finally, homemade almond milk can only last a few days in the refrigerator. You’re hereby advised to only make what you can finish within that time

Method Of Preparation
The SBS code is all you need to make Almond milk at home. SBS simply means: soak, blend and sieve. Pour the almonds into a clean bowl. Add water to the bowl; please ensure that the water is at least an inch above the almonds. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen cloth and allow it to soak overnight. Discard the water used in soaking. Rinse the almonds and transfer them to a blender. Add about two cups of water to the blender. Let me mention at this point that you determine how thick or watery your almond milk will be. The above measurement will just give you thicker and creamier almond milk. Pulse the blender a few times then blend till smooth. Line a bowl or cup with a cheesecloth. Pour the almond milk through the cheesecloth. Squeeze the pulp to extract all the milk. Your almond milk is ready. You can drink this nut milk alone. You can make smoothies and cereal with it. Store whatever remains after use in an airtight container and refrigerate. Sources: The Kitchn Detoxinista Featured Image Source: The Spruce EatsGot a suggestion? Contact us: editor@connectnigeria.com
