Did you know that Davido’s 2017 hit, ‘Fall’ is longest charting Nigerian song on Billboard?

The DMW boss made a post on his Instagram account in December 2018, expressing surprise at his Billboard debut, and thanking his American fans after ‘Fall’ was enlisted on the world’s number one music charts.

The song debuted at number 48 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart in the week of 15th December 2018, and has been on the chart for four whole weeks, peaking at number 29, this being the longest that any song by a Nigerian artiste has been on the internationally acclaimed charts.

Davido’s ‘Fall’ made news at the end of last year as the Nigerian song with the most YouTube streams; over one million! It sold over 40,000 copies in South Africa, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA), and was also America’s most Shazamed song by a non-American artist in 2018.

Davido has continued to gain international fame over the years since his 2011 ‘Dami Duro’ single. Many of his songs including “If”, ‘Fall’, ‘Aye’ and ‘Assurance’ enjoy massive airplay beyond Africa. He has been recognized on several platforms, and won several awards:

The singer, who has just returned from a sold out concert at the O2 Arena in London, has now set his aim at selling out the 20,000 capacity Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Billboard charts is a weekly ranking of songs and albums based on their popularity in and outside of the United States. Songs in its R&B/Hip Hop Airplay chart, where ‘Fall’ falls, are particularly ranked based on monitored audience impressions from a panel of radio stations.

The song is said to have been written by one of DMW’s artistes, Peruzzi, and produced by Kiddominant, who is also known to have produced “Rihanna” by Orezi, “Mama” by Mayorkun, and DJ Neptune’s “Marry”. He was among Pulse’s Top 10 Music Producers in Nigeria for 2017 and ‘Fall’ is perhaps his most successful work so far.
