Nigeria’s tech space is experiencing something that can be likened to an oil boom. More people are signing up to become developers, more experienced local developers are getting worldwide recognition, more and more tech communities are springing up in several locations across the country, and of course, more tech startups and businesses are being birthed.
DevFest Lagos is one of the largest gatherings of local developers, where they come to learn, relax and get to meet each other outside of social media. It is organized by the Google Developer Groups (GDG) in the Southwestern states of Nigeria. The same event also occurs in other states in the country and is sponsored by the GDG communities in those regions.
DevFest holds annually around the world, and the event highlights the use of Google technologies in mobile, web, desktop and cloud platforms. This year’s event will hold at Zone Tech Park, Gbagada on the 3rd of November, 2018. The event is fully loaded with workshops and training sessions, games and plenty of networking. If you want to meet some of Nigeria’s star developers, DevFest is where you want to be.
The theme of the conference is “Digital Well-Being”, pointing to one of the key features announced at Google IO 2018 that’s addressing the long-standing issue of smartphone addiction.
Over 2000 attendees are expected at the event, according to Aniedi Udo-Obong, Program Manager, Developer Ecosystem Sub-Saharan Africa. Few of the speakers this year include Prosper Otemuyiwa, Google Developer Expert (GDE) and Developer Advocate at Apollo GraphQL; Kechy Eke, Program Manager at Google; Ire Aderinokun, GDE and co-founder BuyCoins; amongst others.
