The Dangote Group of Companies inaugurated a new cement plant and 30 megawatts (MW) coal-fired power plant in Zambia (Masaiti District) on Monday, August 4
th.
According to The Nation, the plant has a capacity of 1.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) and cost an estimated $420 million to establish.
President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, stated at the plant’s public commissioning that the money spent to build the plant emanated from Nigeria; a plant which is now one of the company’s 14 plants across the African continent.
In addition, Dangote mentioned that the company was initiating the construction of Zambia’s first cement road as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The company is also committed to building schools and hospitals for the local community.
Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has commended the new plant, citing it as an “important milestone in the relationship” between Nigeria and Zambia.
”Dangote and other entrepreneurs have done us very proud,” he stated, as reported by The Nation.
