It has been disclosed that Core Media Service Limited has unveiled a digital TV station established to provide 24-hour news network services with the name Core TV News.
Mr. Jide Adediran, the company’s Managing Director, unveiled the digital TV station last week at a news conference he addressed alongside the Public Relations Manager of NTA-Star Network Limited, Mr. Anetor Irete, at the firm’s head office, Isheri North.
Adediran explained the rationale behind the founding of Core TV News, elucidating that the primary agenda of the station was to reach every part of the country.
The managing director stated that the TV station was floated in 2013, pointing out that the station started with digitalisation on StarTimes, which he said, offered the right platform to provide national coverage.
He added that the choice of StarTimes attested “to the company’s drive to effectively compete in the mass market. We believe in mass market. For every product, we need mass market. Our 2+6
agenda is to be everywhere. That is why we started with StarTimes. We are already present in 33 states of the Federation. We have gone beyond regional TV station. What we are doing here is what everybody will get across the world.”
Adediran said the crew of Core TV News “is present everywhere and that makes us different. We do 24-hour news and news-oriented programmes. We are not a megaphone for any political party. We are 100 percent objective. We do 100 percent media job.”
Aside from acknowledging that the media firm would be compelled to compete, he also noted that Core TV news was not designed “to run after any firm; neither does it plan to be like any other TV station in the country.
“We are not unmindful of competition. We are not running after anybody. We do not want to be anybody. In six months, we have transformed different stages, and we have come to make a difference. That will show in the way we report and in the extent of our coverage.”
Also speaking at the conference, Irete gave an overview of StarTimes operation in the country, noting that NTA-StarTimes Network Limited “is to help Nigeria migrate from analogue to digital TV.”
He said StarTimes Network Limited was brought into Nigeria in 2010, noting that it “is already in 32 cities in the country. Before the end of 2014, we are expanding to 16 more cities. We are not into entertainment alone. We are focusing on sports, news and documentaries among others.”
