Continued from last week.

Here are more reasons why you start a private tutor agency business now:

Starting now gives you a first mover advantage. Look around you; how many private tutor agency can you find? Not many I guess. Hence starting now gives you a first-mover advantage, not because you’re the first but because you’ll be one of the very few around. At least before it gets saturated like the “pure water” business.

The market is huge. I have talked about the dollar worth of the global tutoring market. We may not have the data for Nigeria, but you can be sure it’s the same story here. The returns on investment look promising. Besides the operational cost of a business name registration, a website, or phone bills, you have very little to spend on.

Easy to start. Private tutor agency business has a low market entry barrier – you don’t have to have a degree in education or be a professor to run a private tutor agency. You could get started in a matter of hours.

Easy to market. You don’t need a huge marketing budget to get started. Darn, you do not even have to spend a kobo on Facebook ads for a start. Just use the good old word-of-mouth advertising.

Tell your family, friends and colleagues and get them to do same. Share it on your social media platforms. Announce it in the associations you belong to. Attend PTA meetings and tell your fellow parents.

You could also start a referral program that rewards every customer that brings another paying client. And when you start making money and want to commit a token to marketing, you can easily use fliers, social media ads, sponsored posts on blogs etc.

It’s flexible. There is no limit to what you can do. You can offer online tutorials, in-person tutorials, and both online and offline tutorial classes. You could even offer niche-based tutorial e.g. tutorials for specific exams, for specific subjects, and for specific kinds of students.

For instance, if you can find a suitably qualified tutor with experience tutoring kids with learning disorders like ADHD for example, you could offer the service to parents whose kids face the same challenge.

You’ll be helping to shape the leaders of tomorrow. No country can truly be great without quality education. By starting a private tutoring agency with some of the best educators and tutors in your ranks you can help shape Nigeria’s leaders of tomorrow.

So how do you get started?

Great question. Just as you’d advise your students, you need to do your homework. Do some research:

If you do your research very well and find the right answers to these questions and more before getting started, you’d find it a lot easier to build a thriving private tutoring agency business.
