Chimamanda Adichie Explains Her Love For Nigerian Fashion (Video)

Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie spoke with the Financial Times about her style story titled “My Fashion Nationalism.” She expresses her desire to support different layers of the fashion industry, she hopes to portray Nigerian fashion, not as a museum of “Traditional African” clothes but a vibrant and diverse industry.
Adichie had earlier been described as the most prominent of a series of critically renowned young Anglophone authors that is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature according to Times Literary Supplement
Recently, in a bid to promote Nigerian clothing, a way of advancing her patriotism, Chimamanda Adichie launched her project “Wear Nigerian” with an official Instagram page where she endorses Nigerian outfits by sharing pictures of herself in them. She wears mostly Nigerian brands for public appearances, as she is particularly filled with admiration for inward-looking brands that dress Nigerian women.

She believes that her fashion project is an act of benign nationalism, a paean to peaceful self-sufficiency, a gesture towards what is still possible. It’s her uncomplicated act for complicated times.
