CHAN 2014: Super Eagles Defeat South Africa; Qualify for Quarter Finals

Nigeria had one of its best games since the start of the African Nations Championship in South Africa. The Super Eagles, comprising of home-based players, got an easy ride over host Bafana-Bafana in a 3-1 clash.
Ejike Uzoenyi opened the net with a volley in the 22nd minute, which put the Eagles ahead while posing a constant threat to the opponents’ defence.
Nigeria earned a penalty with a rough play involving Bafana-Bafana’s Moeneeb Joseph sending Fuad Salami to the pitch. Ifeanyi Ede stepped up to the charge of taking the penalty shot which he converted promptly into the second goal of the day, pulling the team up 2 goals to nil.
Hopes were dashed for the South African team when Uzoenyi combined with Salami to net the third goal of the day for the Eagles.
Though Bafana-Bafana’s Bernard Parker got a penalty in the second half, it was too late to redeem the hosts, thus qualifying the Eagles for the Quarter Final stage.
