The Confederation of African Football has postponed the final round of qualifiers for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The games were originally billed to take place from June 3, to June 11, 2019, however, following the continental football governing body’s decision, the fixtures will now hold between September 2, and September 10, 2019.

The decision to move the matches which was suggested by the CAF Executive Committee was buttressed by the need to prepare and give room for the forthcoming AFCON in Egypt, which is scheduled to hold from June 21, to July 19, 2019.

Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa are the only other teams considerably affected by the rescheduling of the tournament, as they were billed to take on Sudan, Algeria and Zimbabwe respectively in two-legged affairs.

Team Nigeria did not participate in the first round, but rallied back into the tournament after a 2-0 defeat in Libya, with an emphatic 4-2 aggregate win to proceed to the second round.

According to CAF, the seven winers after the two legs will join hosts, Egypt, for the final stage of the tournament scheduled to begin on November 8, 2019, and run through November 22, 2019.

The top three teams after the tournament will represent Africa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
