Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare outran her fierce rivals from Jamaica, Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown in the Shanghai Diamond League 100 metres race on Sunday to win in 10.98 seconds.
Okagbare left the Jamaican duo in her wake; Campbell-Brown had to settle for fourth place whilst Olympic champion Fraser-Pryce came fifth.
The win gives Okagbare a mental advantage ahead of next year’s Olympics in Brazil.
Fraser-Pryce is billed to face Okagbare again for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m crowns later this year in Beijing.
Okagbare, who won the 200m and the long jump at last year’s meet in Shanghai, was ecstatic at her victory on Sunday.
“It is not easy to compete with the best in the world but I won! Shanghai loves me and the track loves me,” she said.
