The 2018 list of
Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) has been unveiled, and Nigerian power couple,
Banky W and Adesua Etomi, made the list, along with other Nigerians in the music and film industry.
MIPAD
The unveiling was made during the MIPAD Recognition Week, which lasted from September 28 through October 4, 2018 in New York City. Honorees were recognized just after the opening of the 73rd United Nations general assembly.
There are at least fourteen Nigerians in the Media and Culture category of the MIPAD list, including singers Falz, Yemi Alade, Dbanj, Davido, Onos Ariyo, as well as actresses Dokore Akande,
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Stella Damascus. Banky and Adesua were honored as the power couple alongside Erico Brass and Kenia Maria from Brazil.
The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) recognizes annually, outstanding achievers of African descent within and outside the continent. The honorees are in four categories;
- Politics & Governance,
- Business & Entrepreneurship,
- Media & Culture,
- Humanitarian & Religious.
MIPAD aims to build a global network of civil society persons, in pursuance of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent (resolution 68/237); 2015 – 2024.
