AYC 2015: Eaglets Bow Out After Loss to South Africa

Nigeria’s U-17 football team fell 1-0 to their South African counterparts in the semi-final of the 11th African U-17 Championship at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey in Niger Republic on Wednesday evening. Khaniysa Mayo’s strike in the 26th minute proved to be the difference between the sides in an action-packed enconuter. Nigeria, who had topped their Group in the first round, were facing South Africa for the second time in the history of the competition. Prior to the fixture, the defending World U-17 Champions were tipped to overcome the South African onslaught and qualify for the final.
