Atiku Wins The PDP Primaries, Emerges As The Presidential Standard-Bearer

  After so much tension, controversy, and everything in between, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has finally chosen former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

The former vice president won with a total of 371 votes out of a total of 767 accredited votes by beating his closest rival, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who got 237. On the other hand, the former president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, finished third with 70 votes, while the governor of the state of Akwa Ibom, Emmanuel Udom, finished fourth with 38 votes. The governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, finished fifth, getting 20 votes, and the former government secretary of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, came sixth, getting 14 votes.

Tarella Diana and Sam Ohuabunwa each received one vote, while Dele Momodu and Ayo Fayose, Charles Ugwu, and Chikwendu Kalu each received zero votes. In his acceptance speech, Atiku Abubakar thanked the delegates promising to make Nigerian security and unity his top priority when he was elected president in 2023.
