The Nigerian athletes will depart for Moscow, Russia today for the World Athletics Championship.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has selected 20 athletes to fly the country’s flag at the event. The athletes were selected from the Cross River/All Nigeria Championships which was held in June.
Blessing Okagbare is one of the two athletes that will participate in the field events, while the other 18 will compete in the track events.
Okagbare will be the cynosure of all eyes after she broke the African record twice in one night at the London Athletics meeting a week ago. She has been in outstanding form in the Diamond league this year.
She will do the long jump along with the track events, while Tosin Oke will feature in the Men’s Triple Jump.
The athletes were expected to converge over the weekend and will fly out to Moscow today.
