Asaba Hosts 42-African Countries Ahead Of Africa Senior Athletics Championships

Asaba was the host for forty-two African countries for the Delegates Registration Meeting (DRM) on Tuesday, ahead of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships. Organization and setting up for the five-day event have been going quite smoothly so far and officials have lauded the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) headed by Solomon Ogba for the great work the team has pulled off so far in innovations and implementations of world-class standards.

In an interaction with journalists after the DRM, the Kenyan team leader, Abraham Mutai, said his country are not in any way taking the competition lightly as they already have plans of bringing their very best to represent Kenya.
For your information, World Champion Julius Yego is coming with us to Asaba so you know we as a nation is taking this championship very seriously. In South Africa two years ago, we were number two but this time we want the number one position and we hope our dream will come true.” — Mutai.
Scribe of the Ethiopia Athletics Federation, Bililign Mekoya, also had his lot to say to journalists, stating that he is very impressed with the facilities that have been put in place for the competition and his delegation, which outnumbers every other team’s, already have their eyes on gold.
We have seen the facility and it is new; so we are happy, we are targeting many medals as possible especially in the long distance races. We are bringing some new athletes and the experienced ones also, we are looking forward to a nice championship.” — Mekoya
Over 42 African countries are expected to be represented in Asaba for the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships, which has been scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 5, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
