Village Capital, in collaboration with Moody’s Foundation, is organizing the Future of Work Accelerator for African entrepreneurs. This program is built with the aim of supporting entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and technical knowledge they need to solve Africa’s employment challenges.
The Future of Work Africa 2022 will identify and help for-profit startups that are offering market-based solutions in education, employment, and benefits.
A total of 45 startups will be accepted into the accelerator and will be trained and prepared for future investment. This group will consist of a core cohort of between 10 and 12 startups, and an extended cohort of 33-35 startups. These startups must be leveraging data to improve access to financial, healthcare, and digital services.
Benefits
Entrepreneurs whose startups are selected to participate in the accelerator will benefit from the program in the following ways:
- Engage investors, mentors, potential customers, and prospective partners.
- Get training that will prepare them to receive more capital from investors.
- Build deep, continent-wide connections with other founders.
- Learn to build financial models and use financial metrics.
- Gain exposure by being featured on Village Capital’s program website.
Eligibility
This program is designed for startups that tackle unemployment in the following ways:
- Testing and credentialing programs.
- Professional, technical, upskilling or reskilling programs.
- New approaches to apprenticeship, job matching, distributed manufacturing platforms, gigs, etc.
- Financial health for informal workers or ed-tech for post-secondary and tertiary institutions.
Applications will remain open until April 29, 2022.
The cohort of startups selected for the accelerator will be confirmed on July 1. Cohort workshops will hold between August and October 2022.
