Apply For The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Program

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is inviting Nigerian graduates to apply for its Foreign Scholarship Program. This initiative is specifically targeted at indigenes of the Niger Delta who want to enrol on a Master’s Degree or PhD program in a foreign institution of higher learning.

According to the NDDC, this program is part of its Human Resource Development Initiative. It is aimed at equipping persons from the Niger Delta with the skills they will need to effectively participate in the local content program of the current administration.

Persons with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in any of these disciplines can apply for this scholarship: Agricultural Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Hospitality Management, Information Technology, Law, Management Sciences, and Medicine.

Candidates who the NDDC selects for its foreign scholarship scheme will benefit from it in the following ways:

  • Have the NDDC pay their tuition fees
  • Get trained in their preferred field, if it is one of those approved by the NDDC
  • Obtain qualifications that will enable them to compete favourably with their peers elsewhere in the world

Eligibility

The NDDC expects applicants to meet these conditions:

  • A first degree with at least a Second Class Lower division for persons looking to enrol in a Master’s Degree program
  • Must have gained admission into a Postgraduate program at a foreign university
  • Possess a written consent of good conduct from one of these: chairman of their LGA, a first-class traditional monarch, member of the national assembly or state house of assembly, or high court judge
  • Must be from the Niger Delta region
  • Should not have a criminal record or be a member of a cult

Note: Persons who are already enrolled in a postgraduate degree program are not eligible.

How To Apply For This Program

Applicants should register on the NDDC website, with these documents:

  • Postgraduate admission letter from a reputable foreign university
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
  • Recent passport photograph
  • Local Government Identification Letter

After completing the registration process, applicants will receive a registration number. The NDDC advises registrants to print a hard copy of the online acknowledgement, as they may need to refer to it later.

The NDDC will shortlist candidates who it selects on its website.

Applications close on October 30.
