EarthTech is a social enterprise that supports people to make discoveries, create technologies and build companies needed to save our planet and our future. They do this by empowering young people to help solve the biggest environmental and social issues the world is currently facing.

The EarthTech Challenge (ETC) invites purpose-driven youth aged between 13-29 with a passion for solving environmental and social issues through the use of science, technology, communication and design. It starts with a six-week online course run from the 16th December 2019 to 24th January 2020, delivered via a cloud-based platform that provides teams with seamless onboarding, access to expert educational material and mentorship.

The competition aims to achieve and create exponential impact for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.

Finalists receive the opportunity to participate in the EarthTech Summit held on Makepeace Island, Richard Branson’s Australian home in February 2020. Here they’ll receive further support, mentoring, seminars, networking, direct investment opportunities to fund and/or commercialise their idea, as well as the chance to be crowned the overall winner of the EarthTech Challenge.

Categories

The categories for the challenge is basically any one belonging to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The submissions must be explicit on the impact the concept makes on any of the SDGs and how technology, creativity, and innovation can help to achieve the Global Goals:

  1. Poverty & Inequality
  2. Food, Water & Health Care
  3. Climate & Energy
  4. Sustainable Futures
  5. Environment & Biodiversity

The ETC is a six-week online challenge that starts with an online content course and then each team submits their team concept of idea. The entries then go through the public voting which accounts for 20% and expert judging which accounts for 80%. Submissions will be video based as each team send a five minutes pitch that covers innovation and creativity, market potential, feasibility, quality of presentation and the impact the idea has on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It is highly encouraged that an integrated team approach is used rather than individual submission because EVERYONE is needed to reach these ambitious targets. Collaborating with different people with different skill sets ensures that all relevant areas for the actualization of the concept is covered.
