To be eligible for the program:
- Applicants must be agri-food brand-based and registered for at least 12 months in one of the 18 eligible African countries (Nigeria is eligible).
- All ideas proposed by applicants must be commercially intensive and contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the food system. Proposed ideas must also align with relevant Sustainable Development Goals where necessary.
- Applicants must have appropriate governance and financial management systems.

Apart from the application form, applicants must also provide:
- Audited accounts for at least one year.
- Company and tax information.
- An account of the “flow of funds” related to the project.
- Applicants must provide background contracts and a Memorandum of Understanding.
- Any document that is relevant and agreed upon with partners must be provided.

- Partners that are involved in ‘full projects’ must include at least 1 Irish-registered agri-food company and 1 local commercial entity in Africa.
- Applicants interested in ‘full projects’ must also prove they have been operating for three years in the relevant agri-food sector and development context.
- Applicants for the ‘full projects’ must also prove how both businesses are distinct and willing to enter an equitable and ethical partnership.
- If an applicant wants to conduct a feasibility study, he or she must include a list of potential partners in the application.
