Unified heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz, has ruled out any possible rematch with former champ, Anthony Joshua, in the United Kingdom.
Both men have been scheduled to meet in a much awaited rematch bout later this year. However, a venue is yet to be selected for the fight.
Ruiz, who defeated Joshua in a riveting show at the Madison Square Garden on June 1, is willing to take a fight only if it is not on Joshua’s home soil.
The Mexican has stated that a match must hold either in New York or Mexico.
“Mexico or New York City again, Vegas or here [in LA].”
— Ruiz
Joshua will be looking forward to the fight, which could possibly be his only other career opportunity to claim back his world titles.
The former world champion lost both his belts and his place atop world boxing, and he is hoping he can redeem himself in front of his most cherished crowd at Wembley.
Although, Ruiz is aware that Joshua’s contract clearly states that he gets to pick the rematch venue, the new champ is flexing his rights and is putting his foot on the ground against Joshua’s wishes.
Since both fighters are yet to agree on a venue for the fight, a date is yet to be chosen, however, the rules state that the fight must happen before the end of the year.
Despite his shock defeat to Ruiz, many boxing legends have backed the British boxer, sure he can defeat the Mexican and reclaim his throne.
