Another Night of Glam At The Heineken Lagos Fashion Week 2018: Day 2

Heineken Lagos Fashion Week
In a night that was unarguably a beautiful fusion of music, fashion and style, the second day of the Heineken Lagos Fashion Week 2018 lived up to the expectations its opening night had raised for attending fashion editors, bloggers and pundits alike. BLOKE opened for the day with each model making down the runway with a candlestick in one hand adorning trademark artsy and quirky white garments and a splash of white powder from hair to face. Denike followed immediately showing neatly-cut and fitted African fabrics that no doubt gained even more allure with the curves and edges of the models emphasizing the designer’s brilliance.
House of Kaya made a bold fashion statement with designs that told tale of Northern Nigeria; only this time, the fashion designer had preferred a theme that accentuates beauty and glam against strength and valiance. DZYN had prepared a collection of designs made of silk, a choice she unarguably did justice to throwing pleat patterns here and there. The Lagos Fashion Week Tents venue for another evening of fashion excellence was still welcoming guests as it clocked 9pm with people pouring into the auditorium in their numbers to see the latest works of some of Nigeria’s finest designers. The atmosphere was already charged with loud music from an A-Game DJ and hearty chatter from a clearly excited audience.
A typical urban beach wear opened the curtain for Moofa’s collections, immediately followed by beautiful coloured pleated ‘80s-inspired dresses adorned by models that saw off the sleek look with white hats. Staff-carrying models delivered to the audience Ugo Monye’s designs that highlighted the strength of masculinity, and with some models later appearing in face paints adorning similar pieces, Ugo Monye closed his exhibition on an audacious note with unarguably the coolest fashion of the night with all models filing out in one straight line after a beautifully choreographed ‘walkout’ routine. In a fine array of colours, Black Coffee churned out beautiful pieces as the strides of the models resonated with the music to create a rhythm that made the sparkles of their garments glow even brighter from the LED lights hanging over the runway. Pure magic. It was an all male model march for JZO, who provided the night with one more feel of fresh air and hope for greater heights in Nigeria’s fashion industry against an era where designers have been accused of following a “bandwagon” trend from their counterparts in the Americas and Europe.
The night continued on a plum with Maybelline, Sunny Rose, Style Temple, Rich Mnisi, Tongoro, Studio 189, Odio Mimonet and Lisa Folawiyo in wait to throw in their collections at one of Africa’s largest fashion events, the Heineken Lagos Fashion Week.
