Going by Lupita Nyong’o’s recent statement, the long-awaited screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie‘s “Americanah” will soon be out.

The Kenyan actress, who bought the film rights to the bestselling novel, had expressed excitement about the project in 2014 while speaking with the New York Daily News:

“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by [the characters’] stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable.”

— Nyong’o

In a recent Vogue magazine interview, the actor assured fans that they will not have to wait too long:

“It’s going to happen in the near future and it’s been a long time in the making and I’m very, very ripe and ready to get into that for sure.”

— Nyong’o

Nyong’o and fellow Black Panther actor, Diana Gurira, have re-written the novel for the screen, and were in Nigeria for research.

“Americanah” is the writer’s third novel, published in 2013. It follows the life of a young Nigerian woman, who immigrates to study in the United States, highlighting her experience in both countries, as well as her relationship with high school sweetheart Obinze.

The book was selected by the New York Times Book Review as one of the 10 best books of 2013, and won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award, among others.

Chimamanda Adichie’s book is also being made into a mini-series, produced by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment Inc. Going by news making the rounds, it is expected to star British-Nigerian, actor David Oyelowo.
