Join us for a celebration of African culture, talent, drama, live poetry, music, cuisines and entertainment. Africa Week 2018 is a week-long programme of activities taking place at across different campuses at the University of the West of England, (UWE) Bristol and within the city. Africa Week 2018 will take place from Monday, 12 March to Friday, 16 March 2018.
This year, our programme brings to Bristol inspiring figures from the African community and the diaspora to engage, promote and discuss historical and current issues about the continent and the future of Africa. In the last two years, we hosted notable African figures including diplomats and ambassadors, and other notable personalities like Leila Abou Lela (Caine Prize Winner for Literature, Nana Ayebia Clarke (MBE), Florence Ayisi (Academy Award-nominated film director) and many more.
Throughout Africa Week, we also recognise the work of Africans in diverse fields in the UK and abroad bringing experts together to discuss topics which challenge, explore and celebrate the heritage, diversity and progress made by Africa and Africans.
To celebrate the contributions of African staff and students at the University, we invite you to take part in our awards nominations. These awards will be presented at the Africa Week Showcase Gala on Friday 16 March.
